Shows That Sold Out Performances
Please note that selling out a single performance doesn't necessarily
mean a show is hot, or vice versa.
For example, a production in a small venue might sell most of
its tickets to family and friends for the debut performance but
struggle for the rest of the festival.
At the same time, a show in a large venue might consistently
sell lots of tickets but never fill all of its many seats. (Then again, it
might; for a memorable example from a past FringeNYC, please click
here.)
For that matter, a production might not attract
the type of folks who buy in advance and yet frequently sell out performances
via at-the-door purchases. The latter aren't reported by FringeCentral
and so can't be tracked here.
That said...it's always nice to sell out a performance
in advance.
Please also note that the hottest shows are likely to receive
an added performance or two via the festival,
or extended runs via the FringeNYC Encore
Series in September.
The following are the shows that sold out performances
via advance ticket sales, listed in alphabetical order:
Bella and the Pool Boy: Saturday
August 13th at 9:15 pm, Saturday August 20th at 4:00 pm, Monday August
22nd at 9:00 pm, and Friday August 26th at 5:30
pm.
Facebook Me: Entire
run is sold out. This happened in a flash—as far as I know,
every performance was available through August 15th, and then they
all sold out within 24 hours. This show is part of the FringeNYC
2010 Encore Series, though, so there are more opportunities to see
it.
Fourteen Flights: Wednesday
August 17th at 8:00 pm, Sunday August 21st at 4:00 pm, Friday August 26th
at 8:45 pm, and Saturday
August 27th at 4:45 pm. This show was within just a few tickets of selling
out in advance completely. It's part of the FringeNYC
2010 Encore Series, though, so there are more opportunities to see
it.
The Legend of Julie-Taymor or The Musical That Killed Everybody: Thursday
August 18th at 8:30 pm, Sunday August 21st at 3:00 pm, and Wednesday August
24th at 7:00 pm. Even the performances of this musical that didn't sell
out in advance typically sold out at the door. This show is part of the FringeNYC
2010 Encore Series, so there are more opportunities to see
it.
Pearl's Gone Blue: Friday
August 12th at 5:30 pm, Wednesday August 24th at
8:30 pm, Friday August 26th at 8:30 pm, and Sunday
August 28th at 3:30 pm. This show is part of the FringeNYC
2010 Encore Series, so there are more opportunities to see
it.
Yeast Nation: On
August 9th—three days before the festival even began—the
entire run of this production sold out. Yeast
Nation also broke a record by selling out
its August 13th opening night on August 3rd,
a full nine days before the start of the festival...making it the
fastest sell-out of any performance in FringeNYC's 15-year history. To
try to accommodate demand, a performance was added for Tuesday
August 23rd at 8:00 pm; but this quickly sold out too.
This show was
invited to participate in the FringeNYC 2011 Encore Series,
but its creators opted to continue improving the material
before putting on additional performances. (Also, frankly, it would've
taken substantial effort for this sprawling musical that
worked so beautifully at the Ellen Stuart Theatre to adjust
its staging for one of the Encore venues.) I strongly suspect you'll
have other chances to see this, though. The production at FringeNYC 2011
most likely to go on to a major commercial run is Yeast Nation.
